I offer courses on the history of eastern Asia at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. My research focuses on urban history and the history of the Japanese empire, including its postwar legacies. I have lived in China and Japan, and have travelled across these and other countries since 1986. I have also lived in the United States and Europe as well as Canada and am interested in relations between the governments and peoples of these various parts of the globe.
