I was born and raised in South Africa. I joined the English Department as an Assistant Professor in 2004. My area of interest is postcolonial literature.

As a student in apartheid South Africa, I was very attracted to anti-colonial literatures. After my studies at the University of Natal, in Pietermaritzburg, I transferred to Sarah Lawrence College where I received my B.A. degree. I earned my M.A. degree at Guelph University under the supervision of Diana Brydon and my Ph.D. at York University with Arun Mukherjee. Titled "Simunye (We Are One!): Discourses of Nation-Building in South African Texts," my doctoral research critiqued the nation-building discourses of the "new" South Africa. The courses I teach at Saint Mary's University offer a postcolonial reading of texts.
