Biosketch

Dr. Hai Wang is a Professor in the Department of Finance, Information Systems and Management Science at the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s University. He joined the department in 2004, initially as an Assistant Professor and subsequently as an Associate Professor, before being promoted to Professor in 2016. He also holds an Adjunct Professor appointment in the Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie University.

Dr. Wang was born in China, where he attended Tsinghua University High School and later Peking University before immigrating to Canada. He received his B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of New Brunswick in 1995, followed by an M.Sc. in 1997 and a Ph.D. in 2004, both in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. His research has been funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

Dr. Wang is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. He has published more than 120 scholarly publications, including papers in leading venues such as the VLDB Journal, Journal of Machine Learning Research (JMLR), IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG), and International Journal of Forecasting. His work has also appeared in the proceedings of premier computer science conferences such as VLDB, ICDE, and ICDM. His co-authored paper "Teaching Design Thinking through Case Analysis: Joint Analytical Process" received the 2011 Best Teaching Brief Award (US$500) from the Decision Sciences Institute and Alpha Iota Delta. His co-authored paper "A Teaching Module of No-Code Business App Development" was recognized with the JISE 2021 Best Paper Honorable Mention Award from the Journal of Information Systems Education and ISCAP‑EDSIG (Information Systems and Computing Academic Professionals – Education Special Interest Group).
