I arrived at Saint Mary's in the Summer of 2007 to teach British Romanticism. Prior to that, I had been an Assistant Professor at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI and a Lecturer at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, where I had received my Ph.D. in 2004.

However, I am originally from Victoria, British Columbia, and it was at the University of Victoria that I received my B.A. in 1992 (a double major in English and Philosophy) and a law degree (LLB) in 1995.  After articling and continuing as an associate at Owen, Bird in Vancouver for a few years, I gave up the glamorous life of an overworked and overstressed barrister to take up that of an even more overstressed (and vastly underpaid) graduate student.  I studied first at Oxford University for a two-year Master of Philosophy degree in Romanticism and then continued my Doctoral work at Vanderbilt.  My dissertation examined conflicts between legal and literary discourse in the Romantic period -- law and literature continues to be a focus of my scholarly work.
