I am currently working on an essay called "Sassoon's Second Protest: The Poetry of the 1930s" that explores why the poetry Siegfried Sassoon wrote after the First World War failed to resonate with the reading public to the same extent that his wartime poetry did.

My PhD was on the Socialist English writer Dan Billany (1913-1943?) who fought in North Africa and disappeared after escaping from an Italian Prisoner of War camp.  My main area of interest is war writing, especially the literature, emerging from of the Second World War (especially Keith Douglas, Alun Lewis, and Hamish Henderson).  I also focus on 20th Century left-wing writing, working class literature, Marxist critical theories, and the 20th Century "long" poem.  Some writers I am interested in are Thomas Hardy, W.H. Auden, Christopher Isherwood, Evelyn Waugh, Olivia Manning, and the American novelist Tim O'Brien.  The role of the media in shaping our society is also an area that interests me.

I also write for DaPoPo theatre a local theatre group who produced my full length play (The Modern World) in 2005.  As well as writing scenes for the group, I also often act as a researcher, academic, and dramaturg.  Playwrights of interest are Arthur Miller, Bertolt Brecht, Clifford Odets, Harold Pinter, and Caryl Churchill.
