I teach part-time at SMU, while searching for that elusive full-time position.  A native of Halifax, I received my B.A. from St. Mary's before heading off to the University of Windsor (Ontario) to do my M.A.  After spending five years at Memorial University in Newfoundland, I moved to the United Kingdom, receiving my PhD from the University of Leicester.

I actually lived in Northampton not Leicester itself.  Northampton is an hour and a half North of London by train (an hour if you get the express).  King John once bought a pair of shoes in Northampton, a shoe-making hub.  King John is more famous as Prince John who according to legend was a nemesis for Robin Hood during the reign of John's brother Richard the Lionheart.

The Hollywood star Errol Flynn had his first professional acting job in Northampton.  Flynn, who received complaints from his neighbours for his penchant for standing naked in his window, was eventually fired from the Northampton Repertory Company after allegedly throwing the wife of a director down a flight of stairs.  He went on to Hollywood where he portrayed, in a weird cosmic connection, Robin Hood, nemesis of King (formerly Prince) John who once bought a pair of shoes at Northampton.

As part of my duties for St. Mary's, I also spent 5 months (December 1999 - April 2000) in the West African country of The Gambia.
