I am from Killarney, in Co. Kerry, Ireland, and I arrived in Halifax in July 2005 to take up a position as Assistant Professor of English. My specialization is in Modern Irish Culture and Literature. Many of my courses are cross-listed with the Irish Studies program.
I am also the new Coordinator of the Irish Studies program.
For my B.A., I studied English and Psychology at Trinity College, Dublin, before moving to the National University of Ireland, Galway, to take an M.A. in Culture and Colonialism. There, I also completed my doctoral dissertation, "The Artist from Nowhere: Historicising Beckett", before finally moving to Nova Scotia. As well as reading and writing about Ireland, I am interested in poetry, psychoanalysis and cultural studies. My classes tend to combine theoretical readings with an awareness of historical context, so you would want to be interested in both.
