GEORGIA PE-PIPER

NSERC is the national funding organization for making strategic investments in Canada's capability in science and technology. NSERC supports both basic university research through discovery grants and project research through partnerships among universities, governments and the private sector, as well as the advanced training of highly qualified people.

NSERC maintains close contact with officials in universities, such as the Dean of Graduate Studies & Research and the Research Grants Officer at Saint Mary’s. In addition, NSERC asks each university to appoint a faculty member as the NSERC regional representative at that university. The current Saint Mary’s representative is Georgia Pe-Piper. The NSERC-Atlantic regional office in Moncton focuses on building good relations with local communities and facilitating access to programs. My role as the Saint Mary’s regional representative is to promote the work of NSERC to Saint Mary’s University and the local community that the university serves through outreach. NSERC provides a small budget to sponsor scientific meetings and events that promote scientific outreach. I also serve as an informal point of contact for members of the University who need advice about NSERC’s programs and activities. Formal submissions of grant requests, scholarship requests and the like are handled by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research
