The Safety Culture team, operating out of Saint Mary's University under the supervision of Dr. Mark Fleming, comprises professionals and researches sharing in interest in applied safety culture. Researchers tackle projects brought forth by partnerships with local and national organizations, as well as from the enthusiasm and creativitiy of the team's members. Recent work has included evaluating the metrics used in safety culture assessment, spanning a wide range of hazardous industries.
Andrea C Bishop, MHSA, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Andrea completed her doctoral work at Dalhousie University on the topic of patient engagement in patient safety and the use of the Health Belief Model to explain patient and provider involvement in patient safety practices. Andrea’s current research is aimed at exploring patient experiences while hospitalized and how they relate to safety culture. Andrea is also a research associate with SafetyNET-Rx (www.safetynetrx), an outreach program that encourages and supports an open dialogue regarding medication errors and quality within community pharmacies in Nova Scotia.
Dylan graduated from the University of Calgary in 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree (with distinction) in Psychology. He is currently in his second year of the MSc. in Applied Psychology program at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax. Dylan is currently completing his thesis work on personnel safety selection. Dylan is also an active member of Saint Mary’s Research Ethics Board.
Dylan’s research interests include safety improvement, personnel selection, advanced statistics, psychometric assessment and technology utilization.
Brianna graduated with an honours degree in psychology from Saint Mary's University in 2013 and will be entering her first year of the MSc. in Applied Psychology program at Saint Mary’s University in September 2014. Currently, Brianna is working on research concerning patient safety and culture within a hospital setting. Her research interests include employee well-being, training evaluation and the use of social networking websites in the recruitment process.
Graduating from Memorial University, Newfoundland in 2013, Kate will be entering her second year of the MSc. in Applied Psychology program at Saint Mary’s University. She has an interest in safety and safety culture in the oil and gas industry.
Hannah is cool and will be leaving for a grand Euro-trip in the Fall of 2014.
